Obituary of Bill Muzzy
MUZZY, William – Peacefully, with family by his side, Bill went home to be with His Lord on Sunday, July 19th, 2020. William Scott Muzzy of Owen Sound was born July 24, 1930 in Cut Knife, SK. Loving husband for 64 years to Joyce Muzzy (nee Hayward). Loving father of Gordon Muzzy and his wife Dianne of Orangeville, Carol Peterson and her husband Doyle of Cochrane, AB, Robert Muzzy of Toronto. Loving grandfather of Jennifer Muzzy, Nicole McAuley (Jamie), Christine Muzzy (Blake Grills), Christopher Peterson, Eric Peterson (Carissa), Renée Drage (Caleb). Great Grandfather of Elle and Evie McAuley, Lucy Grills and Boaz, William and Magnolia Peterson. Remembered by his sister Veldron Ebert, Shellbrook, SK, and sister-in-law Laura Muzzy, Medicine Hat, AB, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by, his parents, Ray and Margery Muzzy, his brother, John and his brother-in-law, Gilbert Ebert.
Bill enjoyed a full life, highlighted by his service as a teacher, starting with two-years at the one-room Settlement School in Tobermory and then 27 years with the Toronto Board of Education. His students from shop class still remember the practical projects, including an aircraft rebuild in his driveway, and making their own fibreglass boats. His later teaching years were in the special needs classroom helping the more severely disabled learn to communicate. When Bill learned to fly, it was hard to find him on the ground during weekends. He flew several different single-engine aircraft over the years, and often made trips to the West to visit family and explore remote Canada. In retirement, Bill and Joyce moved to the Bruce Penninsula, where he grew a hobby sawmill into a thriving small business. Many homes and cottages on “The Bruce” are accented with the cedar lumber from his mill.
A public visitation will be held at the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 250 – 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 3X8 (519) 376-7492 on Thursday, July 30th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, 50 people will be allowed in the building at any given time, and visitors are asked to wear a mask and follow physical distancing rules. Private burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Owen Sound. If so desired, the family would appreciate donations to the Residential Hospice Grey-Bruce (Chapman House), or to Owen Sound Hospital Foundation. William has left his children and future generations a rich Christian heritage.
