Obituary
BERTHA EUGENIA BAILER
“Bert”
Bert was born in Wetaskiwin on July 8, 1929 to Ernest and Emma Kaiser. On May 30, 1947 she married Raymond Bailer and transitioned from town girl to farm wife. It was a sharp learning curve for her; but she became one of the most competent farm wives in the area. Whether in the kitchen, garden, milk barn or in the field she got the job done.
In 2006 Bert and Raymond sold the farm and moved into Wetaskiwin, living in North Ridge Estates where they made many new friends! Bert loved sitting on her deck chatting with everyone as they walked by to check their mail boxes.
In 2019 they moved to Peace Hills Lodge, where Bert enjoyed not having to cook, clean, and could just socialize with old and new friends. As Bert’s health declined she lived with her daughter and then spent the last weeks in the Wetaskiwin Hospital, where she passed away on September 27, 2020. She even enjoyed her time in the hospital developing special relationships with the staff, physio team, and nurses. She kept them laughing with her wit and candid comments. She received such loving care! A special thanks to Dr. Schlenther for his many years as Bert’s doctor.
Family was important to Bert and she set a great example for us all to follow. We will always remember with a smile that “it is what it is”.
Bert is survived by Raymond – her husband of 73 years, three children and their families.
