Bernice Marie Davis
1932 – 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Bernice Marie Davis announces her passing on September 14, 2020, at The Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) in Trail, BC.
Bernice was born on August 9, 1932 in a farm house near Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan, and passed away with loved ones by her side and close by.
Bernice was predeceased by her husband of 30 years Percy Davis, and is survived by her children, Gerald (Nancy) Green, Kathy (Ron) Raugust, Shelly Wright, Kelly Robert, Scott (Lindina) Hacquoil, Reg (Lynn) Davis, Geoff (Doreen) Davis, Ken (Janice) Davis, Percy Davis, 28 Grandchildren, 55 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great Great Grandchild.
Bernice was also predeceased by her parents Clayton Routley and Gertrude Ives (maiden name), and is survived by her loving sister Mona DeVisser.
Bernice received the Life Membership Award from the Royal Canadian Legion for her years of volunteering as Treasurer (1997 – 2012), she also often worked on the Phoning Committee, and participated in many Veteran’s banquets, Teas, and Remembrance Day Ceremonies.
Bernice worked at Kootenay Lake Hospital for many years in the payroll department and loved to interact with people throughout her days.
She loved going fishing with her family and even overcame motion sickness so she could go salmon fishing with Percy on the ocean. Unfortunately, for Percy, this resulted in her out-fishing him on many occasions.
The family would like to thank Dr. Larocque for the years of primary care and support he provided Bernice. The family would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at KBRH that attended to Bernice during her final days. The compassion and professionalism demonstrated by the staff in ER and ICU was inspiring and their care was exceptional.
The family would also like to thank the management and staff at Castle Wood Village for the love and attention they provide to all of their residents but specifically Bernice. They kept mom busy and she loved getting involved in everything – she was President of the Residence Council, part of the Welcome Wagon team, Exercise Leader and initiated a Happy Hour tradition. During her 10 years of residence, she was the driving force behind many fund raising events and good times, especially if it involved dressing up. She was the Queen of Castle Wood Village and her legacy there will live on forever.
There will be no service at Bernice’s request. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Bernice may be made to the KBRH HEALTH FOUNDATION.
