Obituary
Baxter Piercey BROWN, age: 92, born: November 5, 1927, in Wesleyville, N.L.
Passed away peacefully on April 21, 2020, in St. John’s NL. Baxter was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Alicia (Best) Brown, as well as his parents Baxter and Adelaide (Kelloway) Brown, brothers Edgar (Margaret) Brown, Peter Brown and Barzilla Brown, sister-in-law Phyllis Brown, sisters Eileen (Alfred) Kean and Annie Knee, and grandchildren Aaron Rogers and Dawn Rogers.
Dad fished with his father from his teenage years until he left to work as a diamond driller in Schefferville from 1956 to 1958. He then moved to Labrador City in 1959 and worked as a carpenter with I.O.C.C until he retired in September 1987. One year later, dad went to work with the Canadian Coast Guard, travelling along the shores of Newfoundland, repairing lighthouses until he was 65.
Dad was an avid woodworker and spent his time making cradles, cedar chests and nativity stables as well as other furniture for family members — well into his late 80s. Dad never missed sporting events for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren when he was visiting and was a fixture at ball fields and arenas in New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Ontario.
Baxter also leaves behind his children Millicent (Bert) Hudon, Elizabeth Brown, Frederick (Kelly) Brown and Keith (Sherry) Brown and his precious grandchildren Christopher (Leslie) Rogers, Kyra (Dan) Marks, Marc (Monica) Hudon, Sherri Lynn Rogers, Jonathan (Tamara) Hudon, Charlene (Ian) Brown, Crystal (John) Brown, Aidan Brown, Calla Brown, and Caleigh MacKenzie.
Loves of his life, his great grandchildren, Alicia, Tristan, Hailey, Nathan, Baxter, Sagar, Akash, Kanin, Alyssa, Cooper and Finnegan.
Also, brother Job (Ena) Brown and sister Ethel (Clayton) Humphries.
Brothers- and sisters-in-law George Knee and Elizabeth Brown, Gladstone Best, Fred and Louise Best, Joyce Best, Majors Marcella and William Hopkins, Albert and Marguerite Best, Robert and Daphne Best, Irene and Walter Jacobs, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements, in the care of Barrett’s Funeral Home,services to be announced at a later date.
