Barbara Colley 2020

Barbara Ann Colley passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 26, 2020. Barbara was born on August 14, 1936 in Worthing, England. Upon the death of her mother, Ivey Blake, Barb was adopted by her grandparents, Henry and Annie Martha Colley. In 1949 the threesome left England and arrived in Canada where they shared a home with her Aunt Elsie and Uncle James Camden at Lot 1, Concession 7, Downie Township which at the time was Stratford Airport. Barb took advantage of the availability of aircraft at her doorstep and became an excellent licensed pilot. For a number of years, she lived in the Bahamas where she became a fine scuba diver and worked as receptionist and PADI Divemaster at a hotel in Small Hope Bay. It was there that she met Park Adikes who became a lifelong friend and travel companion. After her time in the Bahamas, Barb returned to Stratford where she was hired by the law firm of Riddell, Mountain, Graff and Jarvis. Bob Mountain, his wife Lois and their children, John, Pamela, Ruth, Eric and Liz, soon became her second family. Barb was blessed to have been named as Ruth Mountain’s Godmother. It would be some 50 years later that Barb would retire from her position as an exceptional Title Searcher at the firm which would later become Mountain Mitchell but she continued to free-lance title search at the Perth Land Registry Office well into her retirement years. Barb loved music and shared her lovely soprano voice, not only with the St. James Church Choir, but as a longtime member of the Stratford Concert Choir and faithful member of the Cathedral Singers of Ontario. The highlight of her travels with the Cathedral Singers was singing at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, England. Barb was a lifelong Anglican and a member of St. James Church, Stratford.
Throughout most of her life, Joyce Banks was a very treasured and dear friend. Barb will be remembered and missed, not only by Joyce, but by the many lawyers, law clerks, legal secretaries and choristers who became friends. She is survived by cousin Gerald Camden; cousin Gordon Rowe and his wife Ann; and Marg, widow of cousin Allan Rowe. Barb will not be forgotten by good friends and former co-workers, Nancy McLeod and Nancy McCallum. She was a stubborn, spirited and brilliant individual who achieved high goals. She had a mind like a steel trap. In life, both the sky and the deep ocean are the limit if you strive for a dream. Barbara Colley did both and much more.
Barbara’s cremated remains will be intered in God’s Holy Acre at St. James Anglican Church at a future date. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Feline Friends Network of Stratford, St. James Anglican Church or to the charity of one’s choice through the W.G.
