It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle Arthur “Dave” Smith on May 18th, 2020 at the age of 82 years.
Predeceased by parents Arthur and Susanna Smith, brothers Harvey, Gordon, and Arnold Smith.
Left with cherished memories: wife Eileen (O’Brien); sons David (Elizabeth) and Geoff; grandchildren, Andrew and Isabelle whom he adored with all his heart; sister Nina Todd; and sister-in-law Sheila Ivany. Special niece Kim Todd (Dave Finn), special nephew Steve Todd (Darlene) and many other nieces nephews and cousins.
Dave was a quiet, kind, caring man who loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He worked at CN Railway at various jobs and finally as a budget supervisor. He was a world traveler, from a Safari in Africa, walking the Great Wall of China, viewing the Pyramids in Egypt, to visiting the Holy Lands; it would be easier to list the places he hasn’t been to than the places he has! He loved watching curling, hockey (he was a regular over the years at AHL games) and baseball with his sons, and especially walking around Bowring Park with his wife Eileen and his grand puppy Finniguin, enjoying the nature and friends they met along the way.
Special thanks to the paramedics from Eastern Health, staff at the Emergency Department at HSC, his Physiotherapist Rebecca Long, and his family Doctors Paul Jackman and Stephen Walker who gave him excellent care over his lifetime.
Due to COVID-19 there will be no visitation. Funeral burial service will take place at 11am on Friday May 22,2020 at Carnell’s Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to St.Mary the Virgin Church, Craigmillar Avenue.
A Dad leaves his mark in the world through
the love he gives his Family.
