Archie Hideo Ohno
January 12, 1935 – October 12, 2020
Archie Ohno passed away peacefully in hospital on Monday, October 12, 2020 after a long journey with Parkinson’s Disease. Beloved husband of 54 years to Shirley, he will be dearly missed. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Carolyn (Marcus) and Sharon (Chris). Proud Grandpa of Julian, Sophie and Madeline. Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Archie was predeceased by his siblings, Jack, Michiyo Nakano, Masaharu, Frank, Shigemi, Yoshiko Kishiuchi and Yachiyo Higa.
The youngest of eight siblings, Archie was born in Mission, BC in 1935 but spent the remainder of his childhood in the prairie town of Taber, AB and nearby Lethbridge where the family had been unjustly relocated to during the Second World War along with other Canadian families of Japanese descent. As a young adult, Archie moved to Deep River, ON where he worked for Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. and enjoyed many years in Deep River while raising a family. Upon retiring, he and Shirley moved to Peterborough where they resided until 2018 after which they moved to Oakville. Archie loved working with his hands and finding the hidden beauty in objects and nature. He enjoyed the great outdoors, listening to classical music and Sunday drives. His gentle soul and sense of humour will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Due to these challenging times, the family will hold a private service. Memorial donations to Parkinson Canada or a charity of your choice would be appreciated, in lieu of flowers.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Archie Hideo Ohno January 12 1935 October 12 2020..
