Elliott, Anthony (Tony) July 8, 1936 – May 28, 2020
Tony died peacefully on May 28, 2020 after a short illness. A long life well lived, he shared many wonderful memories with his wife of 56 years, Virginia (Faulknor) and his 2 children, Jennifer Elliott, her husband Tracy Wilson, and Mike Elliott and his wife Karen Elliott. He was a devoted Grandpa to Nicole & Ryan Elliott and Siena & Ellie Wilson. His family was always a priority and he instilled in them the love of the outdoors, travel and adventure that he enjoyed.
Happiest when he was traveling, his first adventures came from biking around England, Scotland and Europe and then sailing alone on his 21st birthday for Canada. He loved his adopted country and explored all its provinces and territories. Although he did occasionally fly—with memorable trips to Australia, New Zealand and Europe—he much preferred driving and especially the many trips he and Virginia took all over North America in their RV.
Tony explored all kinds of interests during his life. He was an avid photographer. He loved working in theatre, using his carpentry skills to build sets for the Gateway Theatre Guild, and later volunteering at the Capitol Centre where he loved ushering at the variety of shows. He was a volunteer all his life, finding lots of different areas where he was needed. He spent many years as a Cub Scout leader, helping to found a pack for disabled Scouts, and he was honored with a Canada Volunteer Award for this work. While naturally a social introvert, he enjoyed many friends in the RV community, the theatre, and hiking groups over the years, as well as a large and boisterous extended family. He was well known for retreating with a good book but also for being there when anyone needed a car, a camera or a house fixed.
The Elliott family would like to thank Dr Kirsty Locke, who went above and beyond in caring for him, as well as the nurses on CCU and C1 who were so wonderful.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Capitol Centre, the Callander library building fund, and North Bay Regional Health Centre would be appreciated.
