Annie’s Obituary
Obituary for Annie Evelyn Smith
Nov 27, 1935 – Dec 26, 2020
Carl Smith is saddened to announce the passing of his beloved sister, Annie, who passed peacefully at Roseway Manor on Boxing Day.
Annie Smith was an artist and writer, as well as being a song writer. Annie would create paintings and donate them to the V.O.N. art sale in Quebec. Many of her paintings still hang in homes around the city of Montreal. She also wrote musicals and lyrics and many of Robbie Smith’s (her predeceased nephew) songs were guided by her genius. She had a ferocious command of the English language.
Annie’s only love was a soccer player in high school, who passed away in their young years from cancer. She never fully recovered from her loss, and indeed, contracted rheumatic fever shortly after his passing, which left her confined to a wheelchair for some time. Returning to Nova Scotia helped to heal her heart and she was soon walking again.
Annie was an entrepreneur, running C&A Smith Import and Export which ultimately brought, among other things, “the round house” to Montreal, where they were featured as a prize by Steinberg’s in one of their contests. They were also used as an office for Hovercraft at Expo ’67, and eventually the Smiths purchased one that was delivered to Nova Scotia two weeks before Christmas. Carl and Robert put their own “round house” together on their land in Jordan Falls, where their mother, Annie, Leona, Carl and Robert, along with Leona’s son Robbie, all lived until a few years ago.
Annie was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Jessie, her siblings Leona and Robert, and her nephew Robbie. She was greatly loved and will be missed forever.
At the family’s request, there will be no service. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Roseway Manor. Carl would like to thank the Manor for their excellent and loving care of Annie for the past several years. On-line condolences may be left at www.huskilson.net
