Annie’s Obituary
The family of Annie MacNeill, Malagash, grieve her passing on November 6th, 2020, at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Born at Malagash Mines on Jan 24th, 1939, to the late Urban Randal Smith and Marjorie Geraldine (Joudrey), Annie would leave Malagash briefly to reside in Halifax, working for the T. Eaton Company. Annie had a lifelong love of country music. She had a lovely voice and was a gifted piano and accordion player. Offered a chance to tour in the states with ‘The Western Sweethearts’, she turned it down for love! Marrying Robert ‘Bud’ MacNeill in 1958, they would raise their family and reside the remainder of their lives together in Malagash. A shared love of music would give them the opportunity to perform together on the Don Messer show. Besides their shared strong family values, they enjoyed over the years time together at the local dances and card parties, cross country skiing, a bit of travelling and entertaining family and friends. As well as raising a busy family of 4 children, mom worked as a Nurses’ Aid in Pugwash, at both the old and new hospitals for over 27 years. Despite her work outside the home, her house was always spotless and the meals prepared. She loved to cook and bake, making sure favorite treats were always ready when one of her children or grandchildren were coming for a visit. No one ever left the house hungry! Family meant everything to mom. She will be dearly missed by children: Darlene (Rick) MacPherson, Hamilton, Ont; Shane (Debbie) Timberlea; Shelly (Kody) Latta, Oakhill; Garnet (Wendy), George’s River; grandchildren; Amy, Sarah, Adam,Hayley, Beth, Carson, Kaleb, Emily and Stefani and 12 great grandchildren. Annie is also survived by her beloved brother Lloyd Smith. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews and cousins. Her oldest surviving relative, Aunt Virginia, held a special place in her heart. She was fortunate have several close friends who will also miss her dearly, as well by her companion, her cat with attitude, Mister B! Mom has mourned the loss of her soul mate, Bud, since 2015 and those family members, including her elder brother Urban, who passed before her. Mom, you fought so hard for so long, we are glad you are finally at peace in dad’s arms again. Together you two can resume exploring the back roads of Nova Scotia looking out for wildlife, put your heads together over a jigsaw puzzle and get to again share a song and a dance together. Those of us left behind will remember the laughter. Heaven is a little more musical now. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mundle’s Funeral Home, 204 Water St., Pugwash: www.mcfunerals.com Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID restrictions a graveside internment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Malagash United Church
