Passed peacefully away on June 18th at St. Clare’s Hospital in St. John’s. Survived by his loving and devoted wife Loretta, son Gary, Andy’s younger brother William (Rita) and family Jessica, Alison and Dillon, Andy’s stepchildren Colleen (Mark), Heather (Dean) and Michael (Alana), grandchildren Scott, Jane, Ben and his many friends worldwide.
Andy was the son of the late Margaret and Andrew and a proud patriot of Scotland. Born in Glasgow, his work in the offshore industry took him all over the world. He called many places home including St. John’s, Heart’s Delight and Halifax but his heart was always in Scotland. His pride could be heard when reciting a verse from Robbie Burns or explaining why the opening credits of Braveheart were inaccurate or why two drops (and only two drops) of water in a dram of Scotch were important. Andy’s greatest pride was his beloved Rangers FC. The royal blue of the team’s uniform was his favourite colour. Any visit to Glasgow was not complete without a trip to Ibrox Stadium.
Andy was a longstanding member of the Masonic fraternity and one of the founders of the Halifax Burns Club. He loved to cheer on his grandchildren in sports, reading and addressing the Haggis on New Year’s Eve when the clock struck midnight in Scotland.
Andy has left us in body only. His spirit and his love will always be with us.
Andy’s family would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Leonard, Dr. Megan Robbins, the staff of Complete Medical and the staff of 4 east St. Clare’s for their compassion and care during his illness.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. To send a message of condolence please visit www.carnells.com
