Albert was born at home near Tribune on Feb 11, 1939, the second son of William and Margaret Ernst. He attended school in Tribune until the age of 16 when he left to work in the quickly developing oilfield in Midale and Estevan and worked on the Discovery Well. In the fall of 1959, he went to work on Bill Tosczak’s farm. In 1964 he moved on to work for Tom McLean’s machine shop in Estevan. Here he developed a passion for working with the metal lathe. He gained valuable experience there and in the fall of 1965 Albert and his uncle, Philip Wanner, bought the Goodwater Garage. He left the machine shop in 1969, but remained an Imperial Oil Agent. In 1973, Albert & Patsy bought their first farm land and continued over the years to build their farm until retiring from farming in 2006.
On July 8, 1967 Albert married the love of his life Patsy. They enjoyed doing many things together such as camping in Northern Saskatchewan, travelling to the Silver Broom World Curling, volunteering in the community and especially being with friends and family, and working the farm together. Then, in September of 1981 they welcomed their first daughter Lanette, and in December of 1982, their second daughter, Stephanie, into their lives. Albert’s girls were the light of his life; there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them. He taught his daughters how to hunt, dress and process, then cook wild game, and maintain and fix their cars. He was always available to initiate or help out with a project around their homes. In August of 2018 Albert & Patsy watched their youngest daughter Stephanie marry Mark Doyle and in January of 2019 they welcomed their first and only granddaughter, June. She was the apple of his eye.
In 2010 Albert and Patsy started travelling down South, first to Mercedes, TX then in 2012 started splitting their winters between Texas and Mesa, AZ. They met many great friends there and Albert was always a part of coffee row in the morning, first saying hello to his ladies in the pool every morning then moving on to solve the world’s problems with the boys. Albert also enjoyed shooting clay pigeons with his friends twice a week.
Albert loved to visit and his infectious laugh echoed wherever he was and will be greatly missed by all.
