It is with great sorrow that the family of Albert Herman Serfas announces his death at the age of 90 years.
Albert was born to John and Caroline (Hahn) Serfas on July 19, 1930. He grew up in the Killaly district on the family farm. Albert, being the eldest child and only son, was required to leave school at a younger age to help with the farming.
Albert married Mary Litzenberger on November 18, 1953, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Melville. They had one son, Dennis, on October 11, 1955. Albert continued to farm until his early 70s; the last thing for him to part with were his beloved horses. He took great care of all his livestock over the years; however, his prized team of horses brought him great pride as he drove in the Melville parade for many years and entertained many children and their parents during the exhibition days giving horse-drawn wagon rides, all with a wide smile on his face.
At the age of 65, Dad and Mom moved into town, at Dad’s initiative, which surprised us all. A couple of years ago, they sold the house and moved into Caleb Village, where he lived until his death last week.
Albert is survived by his wife, Mary; son Dennis (Elaine) Serfas, Prince Albert; granddaughter Jessica (Brian) Grosskleg, Saskatoon; two sisters, Elsie Maurer, Melville, and Emma Albus, Regina; along with numerous sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
