Memorial Donation
It is with extreme sadness that the family announces the passing of (David) Alan Ferguson on July 17, 2020 at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre in Moosomin. Born in 1932 in Rocanville to Billie Ferguson and Margaret Nicol Ferguson, Al was raised on a farm during the depression and the second world war. The lessons learned from his upbringing. and the work ethic instilled by his parents, would serve him well later in life.He would go on to work in a service station in Prince Albert before becoming a tire distributor and store manager along the way. His work would take him to numerous places including Prince Albert, EWstevan, dthe construction of the Cold Lake, AB airforce base, and through small towns in Saskatchewan. After stints managing Firestone retail stores in Prince Albert, Saskatoon and Melfort, he moved back to his home area of Moosomin with his wife Beverly and two children Darryl and David to open his own independendly owned tire and hardware store in 1966. Here he would settle and live out the rest of his life.
Al enjoyed living in the area he was born in, as he knew numerous people from here, and especially enjoyed the sociable aspects of a small town life. He had a keen sense of humour, and was willing to help out others when ever he could. Following retirement from the business after 33 years, he and Beverly would spend their later years travelling and vacationing in Arizona, Osoyoos and Vancouver Island, and especially enjoyed entertaining friends, relatives and 6 grandkids at their cottage on Moosomin Lake. In his later years Al was Slowed by physical ailments but still enjoyed socializing, and spending mornings over coffee with friends at the local A&W or squire, and lunch time at the hospital cafeteria.
Alan was predeceased by his parents William and Margaret, brother John, sisters Ann, Olive and Kay, his wife Beverly, and son Darryl.
He is survived by his son David (Glenda) and their children Louise, Marcus & Joshua, by daughter-in-law Carole Garmaise and her children Jacob, Nathan and Leanne, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Al’s friends who supported him over the years.The familiy would like to extend a special thanks to Al’s friends Jim & Lil Tocker, neighbours Chris and Susan VanJaarsveld, Dr. Ross Kerkhoiff and the entire staff of the Southeast Integrated Care Centre.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or other gifts, donations can be made to the Moosomin & District Healthcare Foundation for the Southeast Integrated Care Centre, in memory of Al.
