Al Hebert 1940-2020

Bathurst – It is with profound sadness that we the family, Angie, Steve and Taylor, announce the death of Al Hébert, of Bathurst. A wonderful father, grandfather and husband, which occurred Thursday April 30, 2020, at the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes, Bathurst.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Arthur and Anna (Chiasson) Hébert.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Angie (Mercier) Hébert.
One son, Steve Hébert (Carole) of Saint John and a grandson, Taylor, whom he adored.
His siblings: Annette Noël (George) of St-Foy, QC, Herman Hébert (Myrna) of Sault St-Marie, ON and Robert Hébert (Susan) of Bathurst. Many nieces and nephews whom he loved.
Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by a brother, Eloi and sisters; Diane Jolicoeur and Susan Fortune.
A graduate from Sacred Heart School & the Brother’s School in 1958 and went on to work as a broadcaster at the former C.K.B.C radio station for 50 wonderful years. Al’s voice was so recognizable in the community that he was often referred to as “The Voice of Bathurst” for over 50 years. His work experience at C.K.B.C. radio ranged from program director, sports director & manager in 1979. He also worked for Phantom 103.3, where his signature program “Country Gold” was enjoyed by many.
He received many accolades over his career, he was named Broadcaster of the Year by his peers in Broadcasting across Canada in 1988, member of the NB Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001, was the voice of the Bathurst Alpine Papermakers, broadcasting out of town games for many years.
Al had many community interests such as the Relay for Life, Cure for Cancer, Boys & Girls Club, Bathurst Minor Hockey Associaton and Parkwood Elementary School.
He enjoyed golfing, playing hockey and softball and would be remised if I failed to mention his loving Corvette “JUST4FUN”.
Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
The family will received relatives and friends at Elhatton’s Funeral Home on Thursday, September 17th, 2020 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Due to the World Pandemic, a celebration of Al’s life will be held by invitation only.
Our family wishes to thank our family doctor, Dr. Martine Thériault, the wonderful caring staff of the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes and the staff of 4th West of the Chaleur Regional Hospital for the wonderful, compassionate care given to Al. We will never forget you. Donations in memory of Al may be given to the Holy Family Church or a charity of the donors choice.
