Obituary
Joseph Sylvio “Blackie” Gagnon, age 92, died on Saturday, December 21, 2019 in the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in Drummond, New Brunswick to the late Robert and arie (Cote) Gagnon.
Blackie worked as a professional painter for the Saint John Dry Dock as well as in the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia. Blackie enjoyed travelling, playing the guitar, reading western novels, and talking with people. He was predeceased by his wife Jean (McPhee) in 2017.
Blackie is survived by his sisters Geraldine St. Onge, Linda, and Patsy (Bert) Levesque; brothers Roger, Donald, Herman and Robert “Bobby” (Gail); children Gerald, Edmond, Claudette, Patrick, David; step-children Paul and George Astephen, Adele Kelly; step-grandchildren Corey and Robin Kelly, Jonathan Boudreau, Lynaya, Sara, Cathy and Jeannie Astephen; sister-in-law Nora Astephen; brothers-in-law Larry and John McPhee; and many loved nieces and nephews throughout Canada.
He is predeceased by sisters Anita, Yvette, Almida “Mamie” and Theresa; brothers Frank and Albert; daughter, Patty and step-son, David Astephen.
Following cremation the family will receive relatives and friends at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424), from 12 noon until 1pm, on Monday, January 6, 2020, at which time the funeral liturgy will be held. Remembrances made to the Alzheimer’s Society, the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
