1936-2019
Sutton, Velma May, 83, Truro, passed away Sunday, December
15, 2019 at home with her family by her side. Born in Maitland, NS,
she was the daughter of the late Horace and Ella (Burns) Hatfield. In
her younger years, Velma graduated from the Great Village School and
moved to Long Island, NY, where she met her husband James and remained
in the United States until 1974 when they immigrated to Canada. She
attended St. John’s Anglican Church, Truro and was also a
member of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Maitland. Mom always
thought about everyone as equal and never said an unkind word about
anyone.
She is survived by a son, James of South Maitland; daughters,
Hope Workman (Terry) of South Maitland, Christine Sutton (Dan) of
Barrie On, Jill Sutton of Maitland; grandchildren, Jennifer, John,
Jocelyn, Fausta, DJ, Ella, Alex, Dimick; great-grandchildren, Hunter,
Blay, Liam, William, Gavin, Xander; brothers, Edward Hatfield (Sandy)
of Truro, Arnold Hatfield of Truro, Kenny Hatfield (Odessa) of
Yarmouth, Ian Hatfield of Onslow; several nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband James Sutton; brothers,
Frederick and Earle.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mattatall~Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. No visitation by request.
Funeral service will take place on Friday, Dec.
20th at 2:00 pm in the Holy Trinity Anglican
Church, Maitland. the Reverend Lori Ramsey will officiate with burial
to follow in the Holy Anglican Cemetery, Maitland. A reception will
follow the burial in the church hall. Donations in memory may be made
to the Holy Trinity Building Fund, Maitland. Private messages of
