Steven Matthew Hrynew
Steve Matthew Hrynew, age 85 of Edmonton passed away on December 6, 2019. Steve was one of ten children born to parents, Matthew & Maggie Hryniw of St. Michael, AB. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret; children, Wendy, Steven (Diane), Don, Catherine, Tammy (Chris); eight grandchildren; siblings, Ann, Olga, Jean, Lawrence (Pat); and extended family. Steve is predeceased by siblings, John, Peter, Elizabeth, Veronica, and Margaret Rose.
Steve graduated from the U of A Electrical Engineering Class of 1958 and went on to work at AGT for 38 years. Steve was a hobby farmer and happily maintained the Hryniw family homestead. He had a passion for antique cars and was known by members of the Edmonton Antique Car Club as “Mr. Buick”. Steve enjoyed curling and generously volunteered his time to EACC, APEGGA, St. Basil’s Parish, Junior Achievement and was Editor of Pride in Progress a history book of the Chipman – St. Michael – Edna/Star Districts. He will be dearly missed and remembered as a loving husband, good father and friend.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff on Unit 54 at the Grey Nuns Hospital.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Basil Ukrainian Catholic Parish on Thursday, December 12 at 10:00 a.m. at 7007 – 109 Street. The following day an interment will be held at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church near St. Michael, AB. To honour Steve, memorial contributions can be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. Michael or a charity of your choice.
