Rodney “Rod”‘s Obituary
NEW GLASGOW – Rodney Garfield “Rod” Salsman, 70, New Glasgow passed away Friday, December 20, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow.
Born in London, Ont., he was a son of Alice (Brown) (LeBlanc) Stewart and the late Garfield Salsman. Prior to retirement due to injury, he was employed as Private Investigator, having previously been employed as an insurance adjuster and cab driver. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, especially proud of his Harley Davidson Softail Night Train. Rod was a proud supporter of the Bikers Down Society, Ride for Sight and various Toy Run Rally’s. He was instrumental in the creation of the provincial Motorcycle Road Safety Sign campaign. Rod was an eloquent speaker, deliberate writer and engaging storyteller. He was always willing to assist those in need – a champion for the underdog. Rod’s proudest “role” was that of “grampy” to his two grandchildren. He was a “larger than life presence” who will be dearly missed by those he loved.
Surviving besides his mother, Alice Stewart, Shelburne, are his wife of 48 years, Sue; daughter, Kelly Salsman (Nick Olender), Trenton; grandchildren, Brennan and Eva; Dad, Tom (Sarah) LeBlanc, Shediac, N.B.; brothers, Michael (Bette) Salsman, Kentville; Timothy “Timmy” LeBlanc, Shelburne; sister, Laura Lee LeBlanc, Montreal, Que.; special family friend, Bea LeBlanc, Sydney; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his father, Garfield, he was predeceased by his grandmother, Eva Sanford; step-father, Bill Stewart; brother, Thomas “Tom” LeBlanc; sister-in-law, Peggy LeBlanc.
In honour of Rod’s wishes his family will celebrate his life at a later date.
