Obituary of Muriel Madere
MADERE – Muriel. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Muriel Irene Madere (Dyke) on Friday, December 20, 2019 at the age of 91, at the Welland County General Hospital. Muriel is survived by her loving children, daughter Lucille (Dick) Grant and son Chris (Robyn) Madere, her grandchildren, Dan Grant, Joshua (Veronica) Grant, Emily (Mike) Rochon, Dustin (Terri) Madere and James Madere and her great grandchildren Wendel, Ariel, Brigit, Elinor, Oskar, Becky, Bennett, Marlen, Reid, Julian, Owen and Jewelianna. Muriel is also survived by her siblings Carl Dyke, Evelyn Bitner, Ruth Kanen and Shirley Kadwell, her sisters-in-law Annette (Nick) Ostryhon, Giselle (Tom) Tokar and Sylvia Smith. She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Muriel was predeceased by her husband Lucien Madere, her parents Cecil and Violet Dyke, her sister Eleanor Coutu and many in-laws. Muriel led a long and active life in the community of Port Colborne. She was the first volunteer co-ordinator at Northland Manor, was known as Grandma Madere to many children who attended A Child’s World Day Care. She was a founding member of St. Brendan’s Church, organizer of the World Day of Prayer in Port Colborne, a member of the Port Colborne Historical Museum and a volunteer at Arabella’s Tea Room and Northland Pointe Auxiliary. At her request cremation has taken place. Muriel’s family will receive visitors at the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Friday, December 27, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A Memorial service will be held in the chapel on Saturday December 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens will take place at a later time. Memorial remembrances to the Charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family. The family extends their appreciation to the staff of the Welland Hospital, Personal Support Workers Jayde, Andrea and Dana and special thanks to Mom’s lovely neighbours for looking out for her over the years.
