On December 20, 2019, Mike Galay passed away at the age of 86 years.
Born in Weiden, Manitoba has lived in Winnipeg, Sudbury, Saskatoon, Edmonton, then finally settling in Lamont for his last 20 years. Left to mourn are his wife Stella, whom he married in 1956. He had two sons, Alan (Sulay) and Wayne (Janice); and five grandchildren, Chance, Savanna, Mckayla, Ashley, and Roma. He is also leaving behind many more family and dear friends.
Mike played violin (or fiddle) from the age of eight years old when he taught himself to play. This lead to an extensive career in music that saw him play weddings, dances, radio, and television. First playing with the Interlake Polka Kings, then his band The Crown Royals. He continued to play into his old age.
He enjoyed camping in his RV and his yearly trips out to Fairmont to sit, play golf and enjoy his time, or when he would take his grandchildren on a long weekend to black nugget.
He worked several jobs, including working in a nickel mine, sales representative, owning sub-stands, before finding locksmithing, which he enjoyed until he retired at age 83 years.
On behalf of the family, we wish to express their gratitude for your many kindnesses evidenced in thought and deed and for your attendance at the funeral service.
