Retired teacher with the RCCDSB, at Cathedral and
Our Lady of Lourdes Schools, Past Chair of the Phoenix Centre Board
We are saddened to announce that Laura, surrounded by the love of her family, left us on Wednesday December 18, 2019, following a journey she stoically endured. Laura will be forever loved and greatly missed by her husband Gary Barnes, her son Nat Barnes (Beth), Toronto, her daughter Jessica Barnes (Chris Taggart), Ottawa and her loving grandchildren Poppy, Julian and Laurel. Dear sister of Mike Hawkins (Lesley) of Ingersoll, Jim Hawkins (Mary) of Kelowna BC and Steve Hawkins of London as well as many nieces and nephews. Our Laura passionately loved her family and friends and the kids that she taught and always showed her deep affection for all of us with both her actions and her words. World adventures and playing in the natural world that we are so fortunate to live in made her glow. Her stoicism during her times of struggle helped us all to be brave. Respecting Laura’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Laura’s Life will be held in the near future and will be announced. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of the Pembroke Regional Hospital and the Irving Greenberg Family Cancer Centre for the loving and compassionate care shown to Laura and her family. In memory of Laura donations to the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangement entrusted to the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Pembroke.
