Jeannette was born on the farm at Ste. Marthe, on February 10, 1944, the only daughter of Romeo and Victoria Fafard (Cantin). She was the second youngest in the family that included five brothers, Raymond, Donald, Roger, Richard, and Romeo Jr. (Bill). She attended school at Ste. Marthe, St. Lazare, and Welwyn. In 1961 Jeannette began working at the Sanatorium in Ninette, Manitoba, where she met Norbert Van Den Bussche, who was farming with his dad, only a mile away from the Sanatorium. They were married in Ste. Marthe on July 4th, 1964 and farmed at Ninette. In 1965 Connie was born. Norbert and Jeannette then moved to Duncan, British Columbia where Norbert worked at a saw mill. While there, their second daughter Jo-Anne was born in 1966. The following year they moved back to Rocanville. Their only son Raymond was born in 1968. Upon returning, Norbert ran a building-moving business for a short while and then went to work at the local potash mine.
Their dream though was to farm and they bought their first half section of land in 1971, and then another half section in 1977, and established their dairy farm. Her love of nature, gardening, and the animals (cows and birds) was very obvious to anyone that visited their beautiful farmyard. She and Norbert worked endlessly and tirelessly to help the farm succeed, enduring and battling drought, failing water wells, and many other difficulties, including losing their house to fire. Her perseverance and hard work were a reflection of her strong character. After the dairy was sold, she and Norbert moved to Welwyn.
Jeannette always put her husband, her children, and others first and a great example of this generosity was to care for both her father and her Uncle Peter when they could no longer care for themselves.
Her generosity was also reflected in her love for the Catholic Church and her great desire to pass on to her children the same Faith that she had received in her youth. She had a great devotion to Our Lady of Fatima because the parish priest in Ste. Marthe, Father Champagne, had often preached about Fatima. She assisted with all the activities in Our Lady of Fatima’s Traditional Catholic parish which had been established in 1997: family camps, boys’ camps, girls’ camps, retreats, pilgrimages. She worked tirelessly in the background for all of these and became “Grandma” to many of the young children both in Our Lady of Fatima parish and those from visiting parishes.
When her health began to decline in 2012 her bravery and perseverance was evident. For a woman that had been so independent and had worked so hard to give to others, becoming dependent when she became wheelchair-bound in 2013, was a very difficult trial. She faced it bravely and prayed much. Through all of this, one of her greatest joys was to see her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Even though she was wheelchair-bound, the detachable tray became a great friend because it enabled her to hold in her arms the little ones she loved so much. They would always put a smile on her face.
Jeannette was predeceased by her parents Romeo and Victoria Fafard, her five brothers Raymond, Donald, Roger, Richard, and Romeo Jr.. She leaves to mourn, her husband Norbert Van Den Bussche, her daughters Connie Green (Darren), Jo-Anne Koskinen(Charles), and son Raymond (Wanda), eighteen grandchildren; Jennifer Morbeto (Green), Melissa Ruhland (Green), Joseph Green, Michael Green, Daniel Green, Monica Lessard (Green), Charles Koskinen Jr., Anthony Koskinen, Rebecca Varnado (Koskinen), Maria Koskinen, Hannah Koskinen, Victoria Koskinen, Martina Koskinen, Patrick Van Den Bussche, Matthew Van Den Bussche, Jacinta Van Den Bussche, Dominic Van Den Bussche, Ian Van Den Bussche, and twenty great grandchildren.
Praise be Jesus and Mary,
Now and Forever Amen.
