It is with deep sadness that I together with our children announce the passing of their father, my husband, partner and best friend of 51 years, George Alexander Gottselig. On Thursday, December 12th, 2019 our lives were toppled forever, never again to be the same. George was born on March 2nd, 1942 in a quiet, country home setting in Bethune, Saskatchewan. Surrounded by the love and support of his family, George drew his last breath of fresh country air in Davidson, SK at the age of 77 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Ann Gottselig (Bitz); father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Herta Hager (Kirschke). George is survived by his loving wife, partner and best friend, Marianne (Neumann); ten children and twenty grandchildren: Kelly (Chris Laxdal), Jacob and Thomas; Mark (Leah), Bowen, Tanner and Landon Schier; Constance Gottselig (Ingo Hentschel); Martin (Kari), Kayla and Teigan; Matthew (Tara), Veda, Isabelle and Zoe; Pamela (Nicholas Wolanski), Marli and Gage; Daphne (Dwayne Cruise), Edwin, Ella, Elliot and Eoin; Marie Gottselig (Dalles Turnbull), Zachary and Lincoln; Troy (Lindsay), Alexander; and Jordan (Lauren), Leo; brother, David (Grace) Gottselig; sister, Karen (Gary Ahlstrom); brother-in-law, Daniel Hager (France Turcotte); numerous nieces and nephews including his two Godchildren, Heather Bezo and Jody Pedersen; as well as cousins, aunts and uncles and best friends. George was raised southwest of Findlater, SK at SW-18-20-25-W2 where he and his brother Dave continued with the family farm for over 40 years. He was a wheat farmer through and through and took pride in preparing the land to strive for a clean crop. Cattle kept him busy during the winter months and he was always worried about ‘that watering bowl freezing up’. He attended Sunset School and later went on to obtain his Diploma at St. Louis College in Moose Jaw, SK. At an early age he was interested in sports, especially curling, baseball, football and basketball, which was carried on in his children. He spent many hours cheering them all on from the stands. Although he visited many places, his favourite was always Waskesiu and of course, Buffalo Pound. George loved to visit with his neighbours either over a beer, a tailgate conversation or stopping to say hi in the middle of the gravel road. We wish to express our heart-felt gratitude to Dr. Lang and his team at the Davidson Health Care Centre for the compassionate care George received. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 20th, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1064 3rd Avenue, Moose Jaw, SK. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, donations in George’s name may be made to the Davidson Health Care Centre, 900 Government Road, Davidson, SK S0G 1A0. And when you come to the Sunset District, remember “Sam”, his never-ending smile and friendly wave. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Andrew Pratt Funeral Director 306-693-4550.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of George Alexander Gottselig 2019..
