Obituary for Mr. Gavin Kenneth Shaw
Shaw, Gavin Kenneth – Born September 8th/1952 Died peacefully on Friday December 27, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at Campbell House Hospice, Collingwood in his 68th year. Gavin of Collingwood, formerly of Mississauga and Windsor is the beloved and cherished husband of Mary Ellen Shaw (nee Lance). Loving father of Kathryn Lynn (Ken Stratton) and Jessica (Danny Franciosi). Loving Baba of Lily and Jacob. Dear brother of Heather (David Wood), and Christine (Danny Côté), and Julia (Colin Langshaw) Respected brother-in-law of David Lance (Sharron Potter), Nora (David Potts), Jane (Harry Slupeiks) and Ralph Lance (Carolyn). Gavin will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews, friends and former colleagues. Gavin was a passionate man who cared deeply for so many. He had a distinguished career with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, working with and caring for so many children to ensure they were respected, valued and protected. Later, he taught these same values to students as a respected professor at both York University and Windsor Schools of Social Work. He loved to cook and prepare new cuisine for his family and friends, often keeping the ingredients a secret, enjoying these meals with a fine red wine. His passion extended to his varied interests, in particular baseball, his Detroit Tigers, Formula 1 racing & golf. Gavin will be deeply missed. Guests are invited to a Celebration of Life hosted by the family on Saturday January 4, 2020. It will take place at the Balmoral Residences, 8 Harbour Street West, Collingwood in the lower level lounge area. Guests are invited to drop in from 1pm to 4pm to celebrate all that Gavin meant to so many. The family would appreciate donations to Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation – Campbell House. Their tender care was outstanding and appreciated by Gavin and his family.
