DART, Elizabeth “Bessie” Maude-Bedford
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Elizabeth (Bessie) Maude Dart, age 98. She passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, December 10, 2019, in the Brentwood Ponds Retirement Home, Brentwood, where she had lived for the last seven years.
She was born July 13,1921 in Sackville, a daughter of the late Gordon and Blanche Drysdale.
Bessie was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Gordon Seymour Dart; a daughter, Sandra Dart; a daughter-in-law, Jeannie Bourgeois; 6 brothers, Jim Drysdale, Bob Drysdale, Lester Drysdale, Oscar Drysdale, Bryce Drysdale and Freddie Drysdale (who died in infancy) ; and a sister, Margaret MacPherson.
She is survived by her sons Jim (Debby), Bedford and Bryce (Helen), Bedford; sister’s-in-law Lillian Drysdale (Dart) , Bedford, Dorothy Drysdale, Bedford, Hazel Dart, Sackville; grandchildren Alex (Ashley), Andrew (Brenna), Michelle and Paul (Michelle). She also leaves behind numerous loving great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bessie was kind and generous and was happy to invite friends and family into her home for a chat or a wonderful meal. If you chatted with her long enough she might have made you laugh from her quick wit and dry sense of humour. If she wasn’t at home, you might have found her working at the Sewing Basket in Sunnyside Mall or enjoying a card game at her mother’s house. Bessie enjoyed travelling around Nova Scotia and across Canada. She was especially fond of camping in Keji. Throughout her life in Bedford, Bessie was the happiest when she was with her family. Bessie leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion and courage.
Bessie’s family would like to extend special thanks to Sheila Archibald and her caring and loving staff at the Brentwood Ponds Retirement Home.
A celebration of Bessie’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 18 at the Bedford United Church, 1200 Bedford Highway, Bedford. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation of Canada.
