VAN DAMME: Eileen
Nov. 14, 1935 – Nov. 27, 2019
Eileen Ruth Van Damme (nee Roney) was born on November 14, 1935 at the farmhouse 14 miles west of Imperial and was delivered by Mrs. McGifford. The family moved to the Roney homestead in 1940, which is still farmed by family today. Eileen attended Rolling Ridge School with her siblings. In 1949, the family moved to Nipawin to find work. Eileen and her family moved back to the town of Imperial in 1953, where she graduated from Imperial School in 1954. After graduation, she worked at the Royal Bank in Regina, and then transferred to Imperial. Eileen and Ernest met during her school years in Imperial and married in September of 1961. They raised four children, first in Imperial, and then on the family farm. While raising her family, Eileen enjoyed sewing and made many outfits for her children. She returned to school in 1990 to complete her Special Care Aide certification and worked for eight years with many seniors to make their lives easier. Eileen was always up for a challenge, so she became one of the first drivers for Imperial & District Ambulance. She also dedicated a good portion of her life to babysitting various grandchildren. That time with her grandchildren was one of her greatest joys. Eileen was active on various boards and volunteered for many community events. During retirement, Eileen filled her days gardening, cross stitching, knitting, crocheting, making crafts, camping with friends and family, and watching her children and grandchildren’s sports and activities.
Eileen will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years, Ernest; children: Rhonda (Gary), Randy (Debbie), Karla (Mark), and Jason (Jade); grandchildren: Jennifer (Mike), Kyle, Brett (Eden), Codie (Patrick), Austin, Paige (Aaron), Emmett (Emma), Maguire, Mackenzie, Rylee, and Preston; great-grandchildren: Alexa, Bailey, Chloe, and Tyson; her sister Jean (Corky) Loewen; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Roney, Elaine (Alvin) Joa, and Linda Van Damme; brothers-in-law: Glenn (Onagh) Crawford, Glen Larsen, and Cliff Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her granddaughter, Amanda Van Damme; parents: Robert and Margaret Roney; siblings and in-laws: Cliff Hanna, Allan (Lois) Roney, Clifford Roney, Marjorie Larsen, Beth Crawford, Barry Roney, Alan Van Damme, and Bernice Van Damme; niece, Karen Hanna; and nephew, Bruce Joa.
