DESJARDINE, Awlly Almon

Awlly Almon Desjardine, also known as Dez by some, passed away on December 2, 2019 in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 96. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Rose; daughters: Pamela Desjardine of Kelowna, Janet Desjardine (Ron Lockwood) of Lake Country, Bonnie Foster (nee Desjardine) of Drayton Valley, AB; grandchildren: Tiffany Moser, Karla and Ross Lockwood, Christopher Clarke, Eugene Urchyshyn, Krystal-Rose Dehaan; great grandchildren: Breanne Seely, Shawna Clarke, Taylor Clarke, Cooper Urchyshyn, Hudson Urchyshyn, Camden Urchyshyn, Crosby Urchyshyn; great, great grandchildren: Alice and Baymen Boyer. Predeceased by daughter Michelle Desjardine; brothers: Orville, Alvin, Coinell Desjardine; sisters: Doris Campbell and Della Desjardine. There will be a private family service.
Awlly was born in Peace River Alberta on March 4, 1923. Some of his occupations in his early life were working on the oil rigs, working in lumber camps, as a taxi driver and working at a plywood plant. Awlly met Rose in Edmonton in 1962, they married in 1966. Rose brought three daughters with her into the marriage: Pamela, Janet, Michelle and they had a fourth daughter Bonnie in 1969. They made their home outside of Salmon Arm BC in Gleneden on 5 acres with a big garden, pigs, chickens, geese and a beef now and then. He was a volunteer fire fighter with the Gleneden fire hall and a fish and game member. Awlly was an avid hunter, fisherman and camper. He played slow pitch, one of his team names was the Coffin Dodgers, another the Almost Angels and a third, the Shuswap Blues. He participated in the Canada senior games in 1988.
Awlly retired from the Federated Co-op Plywood Plant in Canoe BC in 1988 they then moved away from Salmon Arm to Sicamous for 13 years. Finally, they moved into a suite in the home of their daughter Janet and son-in-law Ron in (Winfield) Lake Country BC in 2001. He suffered a stroke in 2000. Awlly worked very hard to regain his strength by working out three days a week and playing pool three days a week, he continued with this to the very end. He maintained a driver’s license until his birthday this year. He will be fondly remembered and truly missed.
