Obituary of Charles Arthur Stewart Hocquard
It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Hocquard, husband of E. Sharon (MacNair) (Sullivan) Hocquard of Charlo, NB, announce his passing on Friday, December 20, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born August 14, 1947, he was a son of the late Duval and Viola (Gilker) Hocquard. In addition to his wife, Sharon, Charles is survived by his children: Stephen Hocquard (Tammy) of Horsefly, BC, Kevin Hocquard (Nina) of Quispamsis, NB, and Carolyn Hocquard of Halifax, NS; grandchildren, Leah and Alec Hocquard; his twin brother, Chris Hocquard (June); sister, Dawn Trenholm (Darrell); his beloved Golden Retriever, Riley; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Bill and John Hocquard.
Charles’ passion was his work. From humble beginnings in Dalhousie, NB, he began a career in the industrial chemical industry that led him to Nackawic, NB and Vancouver, BC. He then transitioned to commissioning chemical plant projects around the world. During his long career, Charles developed an extensive network of friends and colleagues throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe, as well as South America, Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and most recently Egypt.
Charles also enjoyed sports, playing and coaching both hockey and baseball when younger, and in later years was a frequent golfer. While his children were younger, he also contributed to his community including participating in the redevelopment of the Kirk United Church in Nackawic, NB as well as once serving as the town’s Deputy Mayor.
The family would like to thank his colleagues who assisted him during his recent illness; the staff at International SOS and the Jet Call air ambulance team; his most recent client Outotec; Drs. Mowatt, Bishop, Kuriakose, Ondiveeran, Tutschka, Webster and all the MICU nurses and staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Although Charles’ entire medical team delivered excellent care, the family would like to recognize the outstanding professionalism and compassion of Dr. Duncan Webster by requesting donations in support of his foundation, The FoG (see below).
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). In keeping with Charles’ wishes, a family celebration of his life will take place in Northern NB at a later date. For those who wish, donations in his memory can be made to the Restigouche County SPCA or the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation – The FoG (Foundation Glycosylation) at www.thegive.ca, see Ways to Give menu, Research tab. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.BrenansFH.com.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Charles
