Wopke Emma Scullion
1940-2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
Wopke Emma Scullion on November 2nd, 2019 at
the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Wopke was born on March
4th, 1940 in Hannover, Germany. Her early life
included apprenticing in the fine leather goods trade, attending the
opera, and participating in various other cultural and athletic
endeavours including memberships in a variety of private sporting
clubs. Wopke arrived in Canada in 1965 as a military spouse with two
babies and expecting a third.
Years later Wopke started her own business, Wopke’s
Plant Care. She was known to many as “The Plant Lady.” Wopke
endeared herself to everyone who met her with her frank and honest
personality.
Wopke is survived by her three sons; John (Karen), Robert,
Dion (Monique) and several grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In
addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her second husband
Eugene “Gene” D. O’Brien.
At Wopke’s request there will be no visitation or
formal service. Donations in Wopke’s memory may be made to
the Chalmers Foundation.
