Ruth Elizabeth Jordan
Ruth Elizabeth Jordan – age 79, of New Minas, passed away on
Sunday, November 3, 2019 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville.
Born in Canning, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Clara
(Webster) Spicer. Ruth began her career as a switchboard operator at
the Nova Scotia Sanitorium. She went on to work in the lab and
microbiology at the Blanchard Fraser Memorial and the Valley Regional
Hospitals. She also worked as a receptionist for Dr. Shaw. She was a
member of the Children’s Wish Foundation, T.O.P.S. New
Minas, a founding member of the Kentville Silver Gliders, and a member
of the Bethany Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member of the
choir and auxiliary. Ruth was a supportive hockey and figure skating
mom with a great sense of humour and she volunteered for Home and
School. She was well-known in the community and beyond. She was very
generous and enjoyed baking for her grandchildren and the church. She
loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her
grandchildren. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sherry Jordan, New
Minas; sons, Don Jordan (Stephanie Bell), New Minas; Jim (Alison)
Jordan, Timberlea; their father, Phil Jordan, New Minas; sisters,
Muriel Shaw, New Minas; Erma Coleman, Meadowvale, Kings County; six
grandchildren, Ashley Jordan, Megan (Nathan) Oxford, Kate Jordan,
Danielle (Jeremy) Neaves, Hillary Monette and Julien Jordan; four
great-granddaughters, Emmerson Neaves; Blake Neaves, Grace Oxford,
Leah Oxford; sister-in-law, Sue Spicer, Fredericton; many nieces and
nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Frank and Fred; sister,
Leone Taylor; brothers-in-law, Vincent Shaw, John Taylor and Richard
Coleman. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8
p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception,
will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2019 in the Bethany
Memorial Baptist Church, Kentville, Reverend Thelma MacDonald and
Reverend Sarah Stevens officiating. Burial will take place in Habitant
Cemetery, Kings County. The family would like to express their sincere
appreciation to the Annapolis Valley VON, nieces, Karen Ramsay
& Kim Power, doctors, nurses and staff of the Valley Regional
Hospital, Shelley McDowell, family, friends and community members for
their care, kindness, tokens of sympathy and compassion. Family
flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to Bethany
Memorial Baptist Church or the Children’s Wish Foundation.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral
Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
