Orien Demers Tuesday November 26th 2019

Orien Joseph Henri Demers – July 1, 1920 – November 26, 2019
Peacefully passed away at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in his 100th year, with his children by his side.
Beloved husband of Annette (Deschamps). Survived by his Loving children who Cherished him, Jeannette Thomas (Noman – deceased), Yvon (Betty), Gerard (Cathy), Patricia Demers (Terry), and Donna Kelly. Adored by his grandchildren, Jeannine Young (Ronald), Neville Thomas (Kerry), Sharlene Maietta (Chris), Derek Demers (Nicole), Dawn McLeod (Brad), Shannon Cook (Kevin), Dustin Sardinha (Rochelle), Lindsay Sardinha (Anthony), and Ryan Sardinha and his great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Jeanne, Emilie, Koen, James, Sarin, Nathan, Raea, Phillip, Sophie, Isabel, Marlo, Jacquelene, Chloe, Cameron, Celeste, Timothy, Aria, Audrey, Hailey and Wyatt. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews and all of those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by his life.
Orien was born in Fassett, Quebec and moved to Northern Ontario at an early age. He began his lengthy working career starting out in the Northern Ontario lumber mill industry, worked in the DIL ammunition plant in Nobel, Ontario, moved explosives on the Narrow Gauge Railway and ended his career working at the Good Year Plant in Mimico, Ontario both as a machine operator and a “temporary” supervisor, for 40 years. His work as a “temporary” supervisor lasted for 18 years. He enlisted at the time of war, however, it was decided that his invaluable skills were required at the Good Year Plant, which heavily served the war effort. When he finally retired in 1984, he continued his handyman activities, working as a painter and a “jack of all trades” for decades.
Orien was a “Salt of the Earth” kind of Man. He was a strong, hard-working man and yet at the same time gentle as a lamb. He was kind, loving and compassionate. He lived for his family and his friends and he was always there for anyone who needed help. He was a man of integrity and honour, dedicated and loyal. He was revered by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him. He will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at G.H. Hogle Funeral Home – 63 Mimico Ave. Toronto on Thursday, November 28, 2019 (2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9pm). A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 29, 2019 at 12 pm at St. Mark’s Church – 277 Park Lawn Road, Etobicoke. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
