Kenneth E. Stephenson
STEPHENSON, Kenneth – Left his earthly body to join his first love Margaret (Warner 1997), their son Douglas (2006) and brother Lloyd (2016). Ken now leaves behind his beloved wife Joan (Freeman), his children Cathy & Mike (Jenken); Ken & Sharon Stephenson; Laurie & Scott (Bennett) and Step-son Tyler (Chantal) Walpole. Also feeling the loss of a very special man are his grandchildren Stephen (Charissa) Jenken, Michelle (Dave Jones); Brian, Blair (Amy) Stephenson; Emily Bennett (Scott Gallant); step-grandchildren Blain, Ryan, Natalie and Katelyn Walpole; Dustin (Taneeyah) Downey, and Katie Zappitelli and 9 very special great-grandchildren. Predeceased by step-sons Ed (Claudelle) and Mike Walpole. Ken will be missed by many family members dear to him, most especially, brother and sisters of the heart Frances Stephenson and Tom & Marion Peel. Ken retired from Cyanamid Welland Chemical Plant in 1990 after 39 years. He was a very active part of the Southminster United Church family where he was a member for more than 60 years. Dad had young people in his Sunday School classes marvelling at his deep blue black whiskers during lessons. Along with Margaret and a team of wonderful church friends, he worked in the kitchen as a dishwasher, table setter, chicken pounder and potato peeler for more dinners than can be counted. He set and washed up for Communion, cleaned church floors, yards and tended to the frustrating furnace and boiler breakdowns. The Cubs and Scouts saw him lugging supplies, flipping pancakes, making campfires and driving to outings and Jamborees for many years. He was a true believer and giver to his faith and to his Church. All of his children remember being driven to and from Brownies, Cubs, Scouts, Choir, C.G.I.T., school, track meets, soccer, lacrosse and more, with him showing great patience. As a family, we were proud to attend his and fellow Stamford Collegiate teammates induction to the Niagara Falls Wall of Fame for their record setting relay race in the 1950 Dominion School Boy’s Track and Field Championship in Montreal. Ken’s family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Millennium Trail Manor who became his additional family members over the past 2 years. You were his home away from home. Bless you all. Ken was a caring and loving Husband, Dad and Grandfather who gave each of us so many wonderful memories to cherish. Never did he treat his children’s spouses as in-laws, we all belonged to him. Dad’s departure is felt to our cores. He will always be remembered with much love and gratefulness for giving so much of himself to each of us. We love you Ken, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Frere, Brother, Uncle, Friend. You are the best of the best.
The family will receive friends at Morse & Son Funeral Home, 5917 Main St., on Friday from 1 to 3 pm and 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 pm. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to Diabetes Canada or Southminster United Church.
