It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Eileen Allen in the early morning hours of November 21, 2019, at the Jubilee Manor in Nelson, BC. Susan passed away peacefully due to complications from fighting a courageous 21-year battle with MS.
Sue’s working career started in Vancouver before moving to the Kootenays, where she lived and worked in the Kaslo/Ainsworth area. Leaving there she moved to Kelowna, Whitehorse, then Edmonton. While living in Edmonton she met her life-long friend Wendy Lauder. Leaving Edmonton for Nelson she found a job as a bookkeeper, many years later MS ended her career.
While living in Nelson she met her partner of 21 years, Jim Lunn. In the early years she enjoyed to bowl, especially 3-6-9 tournaments. Her all-time favourite moments were spent at the Lunn’s summer camp at Woodbury Resort. She had many years of fishing on Kootenay Lake and especially enjoyed derby time, with best friends Joe and Laurie Sirak. Endless campfires where she shared her sense of humour, love of country music, and telling many jokes. Sue kept our guests entertained for hours.
She was estranged from her immediate family for many years. She is survived by her partner Jim Lunn and family, Cora Lunn (Bill deceased), Maxine (John) Eggleton, their kids Jennifer (Les) Colton, Jacob, Mason, Gillian (Dave), Isaac, Luca, Jason (Randi), and twin boys Elias and Lyndon.
Her favourite day was Thursday because she got to come back to her apartment for special coffee and hours of computer time; online shopping and downloading her favourite music and pictures of the kids.
We would like to thank Dr. Brian Woodward for his many years of care, right to the last day. Dr. Tuval, all the nurses and care aids on the third floor of the Kootenay Lake Hospital. Heather Woodward, Dr. Janz, and their team of nurses and numerous care aids for the last 2 years at Jubilee Manor care facility. And to you #1 (Tina), Sue’s favourite, thanks for the last 2 years of verbal and eyerolling entertainment. Thank you to her regular visitors, especially Laurie Sirak, Homecare workers, Lorelli, Josey, Mary, Brenda. Lastly a special thanks to her life-long friend Wendy (Rod) Lauder. You always lifted her spirits with your cards, letters, texts, and many phone calls. You were a true friend to the end.
Sue was truly a bright light in our life, a true North Star. She will be missed by all that knew her.
“It has been a true honour to know and be with you over the years. For what you have been through, you are the strongest person I know.”
