It is with profound sadness that the family of Ronald “Ron” Steele announce the passing of their beloved husband, father and grandfather on Tueday, October 15, 2019 in Calgary Alberta. Ron was born in London, Ontario on April 29, 1933 to Francis and Veronica Steele; he had three siblings. Ron joined the military leaving as a Major and went into business for himself. He then joined the Government of Ontario and was transferred to Ft. Smith N.W.T. as a financial officer. While Ron was in Ft. Smith, he started up a reservemilitia and encouraged the young people to join; he was proud of his group. Ron moved back to Ontario and went to work with the Government Museum. He took up horse racing as an owner and spent a few years doing that. He moved on to work with the Encyclopedia Britannica and was transferred to different areas in Canada. Reaching Calgary he and his partner Terry Pallier put together a program called A Plus Child Development. Unfortunately after his fall breaking his hip, he ended up in hospital, got sepsis, survived that and went into the Providence Care Centre where he stayed until his passing. He loved the singing with Sylvie’s program and joined in wholeheartedly; often singing in the dining rrom to one and all.
Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Margaret (Dearheart); son, Scott; daughters, Patricia and Suzanne (Dan); and granddaughter, Anjali.
A viewing was held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services in Airdrie, Alberta. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Providence Care Centre in Calgary, Alberta at a later date.
A special thanks to the nursing staff of Providence, the LPN’s and caregivers. Special thanks to “Jack” Astrid, who Ron considered a friend; and to Gracie whose love and caring heart always made Ron happy. There are so many who made Ron’s life easier and thank you all for that. Also a special thank you to my sister, Muriel for being with me at this time, and to my nephew, Stan, for posting the video of Ron singing.
Donations in Ron’s memory may be made to the Providence Care Centre for the building of the Chapel which Ron was looking forward to seeing completed.
Call me when you wake up love.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Ronald Ron Steele October 15th 2019..
