Rastislav Milan Stypa
Stypa, Dr. Rastislav Milan
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Rastislav Milan Stypa (Slavek) at the age of 90. Slavek was born on April 29, 1929 in Brno, Moravia, Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic, and died in his sleep on October 24, 2019. Loving husband of the late Dorith Sylvia (Seliger) Stypa who passed on April 11, 2012. They had 2 sons, Marian and wife Kelly (North Carolina) and Roman (Breslau). Slavek and Dorith decided to leave their home in Usti nad Labem, Czech Republic with their two boys on August 30, 1968, following the WARSAW PACT/Russian military invasion of the country. The family first went to West Germany and later found a refugee accepting country, Canada. Not knowing English, and only having three suitcases, they emigrated on October 26, 1968.
Slavek graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of BRNO in 1953. He loved life and his ambition was to prolong life of all animals. He helped set up the New Hamburg Veterinary Clinic in 1973 and focused on Large Animal Medicine. He brought his family to Canada as he wanted to provide a better life for his wife and sons. The family quickly adapted to the local customs and norms, and were welcomed by the many local farmers and friends. He is survived by his two sons, grandchildren, Veronika, Peter and Natasha, and great-granddaughter, Eliora.
Visitation will be held at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener (519) 749-8467, on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, followed by a celebration of life at 7 Granite Hill Road in Cambridge starting at 5 pm. As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home). Visit www.henrywalser.com to view Slavek’s memorial.
