Barry died suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019 at Belleville General Hospital. He was 72. For 49 years Barry was the husband and best friend of Judy (Manol). He was the loving father of Josh and his wife, Alana, and Luke and his wife, Susan. He was the adoring grandfather of Kuzo and Annetta. Barry was the brother of Nancy Hendry (Stephen Clarke) of Bamfield, B.C. He was predeceased by his elder brother, Brian, and parents Audrey and Bert. Born and raised in Toronto, Barry lived briefly in Peterborough before moving to Bancroft in 1979. He was a foreman at Universal Seal, a lumber grader and shop steward at Martin Lumber, and for 20 years the respected reporter, photographer and news editor for The Bancroft Times, for which he filed countless articles, photos and thoughtful and influential editorials. Barry gave a voice to those who had none. He was a regular volunteer and coach with numerous youth sports teams, the Cub Scouts and community organizations (including the Bancroft and Area Stewardship Council and being a founding member of both North Hastings Palliative Support/Hospice North Hastings and the Highland Animal Relief Team). As many people have said since his passing, Barry was always enthusiastic and strong in his support of the people and groups of North Hastings. He loved and believed in the region and its people. That was most clear when he initiated the effort which led to Bancroft’s selection as TVO’s Most Talented Town in Ontario. He was literally the driving force, delivering the submission video to Toronto to meet the deadline. He will be remembered for his deep love for and devotion to his family, and for his community spirit, his compassion. Cremation has taken place. An informal gathering honouring Barry’s life will be held in Bancroft within a few weeks, with details posted here. The family appreciates donations to the stewardship council or the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to M.G. Daly Funeral Home, Maynooth.
