SCHULTZ, Elaine Adelaide (nee Mills) died on Wednesday October 23,
2019 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
Born in Roblin Manitoba in 1930, Elaine lived the life of a market
farm girl who loved reading and learning and who taught in a one-room
prairie school house before moving to Ontario at 18 years of age. In
Ontario she attended Business College and became a bookkeeper. Soon
after graduating from college she met and married William (Bill)
Schultz and raised five children: Wilma, Don (Anne), Lorna (Steven),
Lynne (Mike), and Ken (MaryAnn).
Before Bill’s death in 1994 the two of them travelled
extensively throughout Canada and the USA in motorhomes. Eventually
they took up the nomadic life full time travelling during the summer
months and wintering in their Florida home.
When Bill died in 1994, Elaine was sure she wasn’t far behind.
Once the shock of being on her own abated Elaine became a remarkable
role model to many people. Through sheer determination and an
indomitable spirit she set out to improve her health and to live life,
her way. At the age of 70 she learned to swim at the Fairview
Mennonite pool, conquering a lifetime fear of water. She walked many
miles daily and took up strength and fitness training classes at the
David Durward Centre (where she enjoyed volunteering at the desk
In 2004 Elaine broadened her travel experiences beyond North America,
travelling first to England. Since then she enjoyed trips to Europe,
the United Kingdom and at 85 hiked at Uluru while in Australia.
Elaine had a ready smile and loved to laugh. She could pack for a trip
in record time and adored an adventure (big or small!).
Predeceased by Grand Daughter Emily, Elaine was a proud grandmother to
10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Elaine loved her family
beyond measure and her death leaves them with a giant void, she is
Respecting Elaine’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a
private family gathering will be held at Crown Cemetery,
