It is with great sadness the family of Richard “Rick” Barry DeMone, 50, of Lunenburg announces his passing on Friday, August 2, 2019 at South Shore Regional Hospital Bridgewater.
Born in Lunenburg, he was a son of the late Fred “Buddy” and Betty (Liddell) DeMone.
Rick graduated from Lunenburg High School, after which he completed a drafting course at NSCC in Bridgewater and went on to work at Composites Atlantic, as well as working weekends as a Commissionaire at National Sea Products. He was a long-time member of the Lunenburg Fire Department for 26 years, the last few as an Honorary member, due to his illness.
Rick’s first love was his son Jake, followed by his love for his constant companion, his kitty, “Mitzy”. Many will remember his passion for model railroads, of which he had many, as well as his love and talent to draw, especially house plans and vehicles.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie; son, Jacob; sister, Audrey (Michael) Burke, Dartmouth; brother, Jackie (Bonnie), Bridgewater; nephews, Anthony Daniels, Adam and Ryan Burke; mother-in-law, Sharon Lewis; sister-in-law, Shelley Lewis; niece, Aubreena Lewis, all of Moncton.
Besides his parents, Rick was predeceased by brother, James McGarr; father-in-law, Garth Lewis; brother-in-law, Damon Lewis and an infant sister.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy #3, Lunenburg and from where a memorial service celebrating Ricky’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 6 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Steven Hiltz, officiating. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to SHAID or the Lunenburg Fire Department would be appreciated by the family.
The family would like to thank the Lunenburg County VON and Home Support and especially Amanda Slauenwhite for their wonderful care of Rick.
To Dr. Blaine Beaton, Dr. Morgan and Michael Ross and the nurses and staff of South Shore Emergency and 4th floor, we so appreciated your wonderful care and compassion shown to Rick and our family. Debbie would like to thank her Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital family for always being there and supporting her in anyway they could. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
