Memorial Donation
It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother Gladys G. Campion on September 21, 2019 at Virden Hospital at the age of 77.
Gladys Gertrude Campion (Edwards) was born August 28, 1942 in Carman, MB, the seventh of nine children to Bob and Gertie Edwards. The family lived in the Roland, MB area until 1951 when they moved to the farm near Bede, just south of Pipestone, MB. Gladys attended Bede and Pipestone Schools and then worked at various jobs in neighbouring communities until her mother fell ill and then helped take care of her when needed.
In 1965, Gladys married Doug Campion and they moved to the Campion farm in the Belleview district. They ran a mixed farm with cattle, grain, pigs, and chickens together with their children Rhonda and Darcy, then retired to Pipestone, MB in 2001.
Gladys devoted her life to serving her community and spending time with family, who were a very important part of her life. She took pride in her home and yard and it showed. Things had to be cleaned up before heading out to the field to her other job. She was a farmer, not just a farmer’s wife.
In 1994, Gladys took on her new favourite role of being a Gramma and by 2000 she had four grandbabies. Ashley, Deanna, Jaimie and Kyle stole her heart and they loved her just as much.Gladys was predeceased by her parents Bob and Gertie Edwards, brothers Verne, Blake, Fred, and sister Evelyn, sisters in law Glenis and Em, nephew Warren and father and mother in law Stanley and Bessie Campion.
Left to mourn are her husband Doug of 54 years, daughter Rhonda and son Darcy (Laurie), grandchildren Ashley, Deanna, Jaimie, and Kyle and siblings Lyall (Francis) Edwards, Harold (Lucy) Edwards, Joan(Dell) Fletcher and Mel (Penny) Edwards, and sister in law Anne Edwards and brothers in law John Critchlow and Ken (Eleanor) Campion along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Reception celebrating Gladys’ life will be held at the Pipestone Community Hall at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2019. All are welcome.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to Manitoba Brain Injury Association in memory of Gladys.
