Franco Haidar was born on New Year’s day, January 1, 1936 in Lebanon. After fiercely battling lymphoma and its resulting paralysis, Franco joined his deceased mother, Mounife Boukhdoud, and father, Haydar Ali Ahmad, on September 1, 2019. He was known for his sweaty baseball caps and frayed t-shirts. He was also well known for his intolerance of those who did not share his espresso tastes.
Starting his career in Nabatieh, Lebanon as a barber he moved on to Freetown, Sierra Leone to manage his brother’s hairdressing salon. Around 1970 he moved to Bo Town, Sierra Leone to work as a diamond trader and also in the textile industry. After this, Franco moved to Liberia to work as a trader in the iron ore industry. Moving to Montreal in 1979, he swept Marlis Hubbard off her feet and married her in 1988. There he worked as monteur de chassures and managed bread delivery for a factory.
Franco is predeceased by many brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Marlis Hubbard and son by a prior marriage, Wael Ali-Ahmad.
