Duncan Cummings
1938-2019
CUMMINGS, Duncan
– Creignish. With tremendous sadness, we
would like to announce the death of Duncan on Saturday, September 14,
2019. He was surrounded by his loving and adoring family.
Duncan was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (MacEachen)
Cummings of Mabou Harbour. He is survived by his wife,
Josephine (Gillis), his sister, Juanita (Brampton), his brothers, Dan
Archie (Jane), Edmund (Celia), Jimmy (Barbara), all of Mabou and
Jerome of Inverness; his five children, Cindy Negus
(Michael) Ottawa; David (Melissa) Halifax; Lisa Rodney (Vance)
Yarmouth; Darren (Tracey) Port Hawkesbury; and Dwayne (Jennifer)
Oshawa; his 15 grandchildren, Caitlin, Kylie of Ottawa, Kennedy, Logan
of Halifax, Lucas, Grace of Yarmouth, Georgia, Lainey, Myca, Callie of
Port Hawkesbury; and Jake, Brett, Thomas John (T.J.), Cooper, and Max
of Oshawa, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and
cousins. Duncan was predeceased by his granddaughter, Molly
Sarah; brothers, John Robert and Roddie, and his sisters, Martha and
Anna.
After attending school, Duncan made
his way to Elliot Lake, and then Connecticut where his bride joined
him. After a short time there, they moved to Boston where
they had their first two children, and then moved back to Nova Scotia
where they had three more. Upon settling in Creignish,
Duncan established Cummings Construction Limited and then later opened
two Subway franchises. Duncan’s proudest
accomplishments were his children who looked up to him as the most
honest, hard working, respectful, moral, and wise person they could
have known. While being a man of few words, he led by example and
worked hard to instill strong values and honourable character in his
children who promise to carry his legacy forward.
Visitation will take place at Dennis
Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury from 4-8 p.m. on Monday Sept
