of Moorefield passed away peacefully at the Palmerston and District Hospital on Sunday, September 15, 2019 in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late Mervyn Lawless (1956) and the late Donald Smith (2000). Beloved mother of Karen Day of Drayton and her husband the late Ken Day (2018), Virginia (Ginny) and her husband David Franklin of Moorefield and Fred Smith and his wife Sandy of Palmerston. Cherished grandmother of Jeff Day and Jackie Schofield of Breslau, Steve Day and Zana Martin of Waterloo; Trevor and Kyla Franklin of Moorefield Tim and Eryn Franklin of Guelph; Jacqueline Smith of Toronto and Tyson Smith and Victoria Cafik of Palmerston. Dear great grandmother of Lindsay Day and friend Patrick Kuntz, Matthew Day and friend Caitlyn Meenan; Justin Day and friend Jen Meenan; Tyler Franklin, Keely Franklin, Kara MacPherson and Braelyn MacPherson; Cara Franklin and Greg Franklin; and Hazel Smith. Great great grandmother of Abigail. Dora was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Peace Chapter # 52 and of the Moorefield Women’s Institute. Fondly remembered by many good friends and neighbours.
The family will receive friends at the Heritage Funeral Home, Drayton on Thursday, September 26, 2019 in the evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
Rev. Pirie Mitchell will conduct the Memorial Service in the Moorfield Community Center on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Private family interment in Rockwood Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy donations to the Moorefield United Church or the Royal Terrace Residents Council would be appreciated by the family.
Peace Chapter # 52, Order of the Eastern Star will conduct an Eastern Star Service on Thursday at 6:15 p.m.
