Obituary for Donald Loyd Davies
It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce that Donald Loyd Davies, loving Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend, left us suddenly Sunday September 1, 2019 at the age of 72 years.
Don was born on February 7, 1947 in Brandon, MB to Anne and Albert Davies. In 1956, Don’s family moved to the Lower Mainland, B.C. where he finished his schooling. On July 24, 1971 he married Heather Gregg, the happy couple then moving to Calgary AB in 1976 where they raised their children together, Jason and Jennifer.
Don was involved with and proudly worked on many environmental, remediation, recycling and civil engineering projects around the city of Calgary, and over many years contributed his professional knowledge to projects all over Canada and the world. Don was also involved in minor hockey in Calgary, coaching the Juvenile AA Southern Music Blues to their National Championship in 1981, and continued to devotedly coach minor hockey teams for many seasons.
Don absolutely loved spending time with his friends, family and loved ones. He was an enthusiastic, passionate curler and golfer who encouraged all to play. He was also an avid lover of ‘good’ music (Emmylou Harris was his favourite) and enjoyed watching concerts of his favourite bands. He was known for his interest in political views, love for his grandchildren and his curiosity in fun facts and trivia.
He was very proud of his family and their accomplishments. Don had a kind heart that glowed around his grandchildren. Loving to lend a hand anytime he was needed, Don has spent the past many years helping very close family with the renovating and constructing of their lake cottage. This lake home became a very special place in his heart, and he enjoyed spending time here with many laughs and memories shared with loved ones.
Don was predeceased by his Father Albert, Mother Anne, and his Brothers Bruce and Brian. He is survived by his former wife Heather, his two children Jason (Jodi) and Jennifer (Jason), his three grandsons Henry, Samuel and Jack, his step-granddaughter Danika, his sisters Brenda and Diane, sister-in-law Gloria, many cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
For those wishing to pay their respects to Don, an internment service will be held on Thursday, Sept 19, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery, 1605 100th Street SE, Calgary, AB. A memorial reception will follow beginning at 12:00 PM at the Wild Rose Brewery (banquet room in back) 4580 Quesnay Wood Dr SW, Calgary.
