Obituary for
Daniel Ding-Yui Hong
Daniel passed away Wednesday, September 11th 2019 in his 86th year surrounded by family. Beloved husband to Mary (Yook-Wah (Fong)) Hong for over 57 years. Loving and cherished father to his three children – Rosemary (Henry), Christine (Robert) and James (Teresa). Very proud grandfather to Julianne, Kathleen, Christina, Marcus, Caitlin, Jessica, Lauren and Alexander. This is who Daniel was. Family always came first, before himself. He will be remembered with love forever. Born in Canton, China in 1933, Daniel was the eldest of four children; his parents had come from the Toishan region of Southern China. When he immigrated to Canada, he worked many jobs to support his family overseas. It was in Northern Ontario where he met and married the love of his life Mary. They moved to the Ottawa area in 1963 to start their future together to work and raise their growing family. Daniel strongly believed in the power of education, not only for his children, but for himself as an avid learner of everything. He was a successful self-made man, intelligent, hard working and extremely strong. But first and foremost, he was a family man as he loved spending time with his beloved children and grandchildren – teaching, guiding and instilling values.
There was no one more kind, gentle and compassionate than Daniel. His smile and generous nature will be missed. The family will welcome friends at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Tuesday, September 17th from 2 p.m. – 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, September 18th from 11 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment at Beechwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute appreciated.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Daniel Ding-Yui
Hong..
