Obituary of Beatrice Hagley
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, cousin and Auntie of many nieces and nephews, all favoured. Bea died on August 23, 2019. Predeceased by husband, John; sons Dave and Stan (Roxanne); grandson Chad Block; daughter-in-law, Kim Hagley (Tyler); parents Sam and Anne Gienow; brother Howard (Evie), sister Margery (Jim Coles). She will be greatly missed by her children, Dan (Brenda), Pat (Gerry), Sue (Wayne), Malcolm (Adrienne), Tim and Tyler (special friend Giselle); 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way. Bea was born August 22, 1922 on the family farm, near Balgonie, SK. She loved her childhood growing up there. Howie and Bea would climb into the cupola of the barn and call out to their dad when he came into the yard, he never knew where they were. She loved oratory as a child and won prizes at school. She always wanted to learn to dance but being the dirty thirties there was no hope of lessons, so she bought a book and learned to tap dance on her own. She would tap dance for us in the kitchen. Bea and her sister Marge would sing together, Bea loved to harmonize. Surrounding communities would invite them to functions where they would perform. Later, their mom, Anne joined them and they became the Gienow Trio, singing at CKCK radio for the Saturday morning talent show. They also sang at the Regina Exhibition Grandstand one year. Bea married her childhood sweetheart, John Hagley, on December 10, 1941, during the Second World War. John was with the Air Force so she stayed at home with her parents until the war ended. Dave was born during this time. The three of them moved to Drinkwater after the war, to farm. She had deep faith and became a member of the Drinkwater United Church. She sang in the choir, singing solos for Christmas and Easter services. They went on to raise 8 children on the farm: David, Daniel, Stanley, Patricia, Susanne, Malcolm, Timothy and Tyler. Bea loved farm life, being a wife and mother. Her husband and children were her main focus. She was always there when they got off the school bus with fresh baked bread, buns or cakes ready for a snack. Her children’s friends were always welcome, so there was a houseful of people around her. She was very organized and kept a clean home. We were always well dressed, well groomed, well fed and loved. She loved to laugh and there were many parties with much laughter. She loved sitting around the table after a meal, she would talk and laugh with us. Even near the end she would quip a joke or two. We will miss you so much, mom. Special thanks goes to Dr. Rinninsland, Bea’s long time doctor, also to the nurses and care staff at Pioneer Lodge, Moose Jaw. They gave mom excellent care and became fond of her and she of them. A Memorial Service will be held for Bea at 1:00 pm on November 16, 2019 at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St W, Moose Jaw. All are welcome to attend. In living memory of Bea, a memorial tree planting will be made by Jones-Parkview Funeral Services.
