Ann Wickens avis de deces

MAUREEN ANN WICKENS – 1934 to 2019 (85 Years)
After a sudden and unexpected medical complication, our incredible mother passed away on Friday, August 30th, at 10:15 am. She fought hard to recover from a stroke in May but it was not to be.
Our Dad drove to Owen Sound from Southampton every day. He spent the six hour visits chatting, feeding, entertaining and assisting her in any way possible. He was totally dedicated to Mum’s welfare.
Mum was from Woodford Green, Es, England. She dearly loved and was proud of her English roots and family. She was a survivor of the blitz and had many a story to tell.
Ann went to school at Churchfield’s Preparatory School, Woodford Green, Clark’s College for girls in Ilford and Secretarial School, Upper Woodford. She was a member of the Queen’s Ice Skating Club in Bayswater and enjoyed horseback riding at a local riding club. Her first job was at United States Lines Shipping Company, Leadenhall St., London.
Ann married Stanley G. Wickens, who was a member of the First Canadian Rifle Battalion stationed in Hanover Germany in 1953. They settled in Aldershot, Ont. and eventually moved to east Burlington to raise their family. Later in 1984 they retired to Waterdown to restore and decorate a century home where they successfully ran a popular B&B. For the last seven years they have lived in Southampton by the shores of their favourite Lake Huron.
She was devoted mother of Mark (Trudy Powell), Janice (Mike Crans), and Brian (Robyn Justus) and proud Gran of seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Ann was the office administrator for the Burlington Boy Scouts for two decades, a proud Girl Guider Leader and Commissioner for 22 years, a Trillium Award gardener, a talented wedding cake decorator, and a member of the Flamborough Historical Society and Appleby Tennis Club.
You were our biggest fan.
Always loved everyone in the family.
Always proud of us.
Always there to help those in need.
Always there to give a smile to brighten up someone’s day!
Always there for the underdog.
And always the “go to” person for our friends who needed guidance and a listening ear.
God bless you Mum, we will catch up with you one day. From all of us who knew and loved you.
A small gathering to honour Mum will take place at some point in the future with family and friends.
Thank you to the incredible staff for their medical support and care at Owen Sound Hospital, Owen Sound Stroke Unit and Kelso Pines Lodge. You are the best.
Thank you to all who visited Mum, called and/or sent messages of support. And many thanks to their neighbours who helped Dad with the garden and driving him on occasion to Owen Sound.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the “Heart and Stroke Foundation” or “Horse Rescue Ontario & Sanctuary”
