Lee was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first. He was an accomplished self taught musician, avid fisherman, wood carver, gardener and athlete. He loved camping, fishing fly tying and spending time working on his cabin on the lake. He was a man of many talents. He played saxophone, clarinet, guitar, banjo and had a crooner voice like no other. LeRoy was inducted in the Newfoundland Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996 for being the star pitcher with the Town Aces and Corner Brook Barons, and led the team to several championships between 1952-1964. He won the most valuable player award in 1955 in an all Newfoundland junior competition against the Grand Falls Juniors. He also played Hockey with the Humber Hawks. But he was no armchair athlete. He never watched the game. He enjoyed every game he played. Lee lit up every room he ever entered with his joyous smile and pleasant demeanour. He always had a joke or a story to tell and he smiled until his last day. He will be sorely missed.
