Venance Sonier, of Miramichi, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 80.
Born in Tracadie, he was the son of the late Arthur and Laura (Richardson) Sonier. He worked as a carpenter before his retirement and was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church. He was also very involved with the Chatham Head Old Timers.
He will be greatly missed by his two daughters Kathy (Danny Warren) of Chatham Head and Barb Kenny of Miramichi; one son Michael (Nora) of Nelson; five sisters Emelda McIntyre of Bartibog, Joanne (Colin Henderson) of Whitneyville, Betty (Howard Doyle) of Nelson, Regina Nicholson of Moncton, and Tina (Sanford Russell) of Miramichi; one brother Lee (Martha) of Nelson; five grandchildren Mitchell, Jesse, Justin, Michaela, and Jazmine; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Emma (Comeau) Sonier; brothers Gerald and Melford; and sister Jane.
The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home on Monday, September 2, 2019, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at 11 am, from Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, with Father Paul LeBlanc officiating.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Diabetes Association, or to the Alzheimer’s Society.
