Beloved husband, father, Grampa, Jimbob, brother and friend Robert James (Jim) Milliken passed away suddenly on August 5, 2019.
The son of Cec and Betty Milliken, Jim was born on April 5, 1933 in Sarnia, Ontario. He was a gifted athlete and his early years were spent playing hockey and football, fishing and most importantly, golf. The Sarnia Golf and Curling Club was his second home. Jim met his future wife, Diane (nee Swan) at SCIT’s high school. The romance bloomed while Jim was attending Ryerson taking Business Management ,and the pair were married on August 31, 1956. Two daughters quickly followed and he began his long career in the investment industry. The highlight of his career were his years as President of the Alberta Stock Exchange.
Jim loved music. He often entertained by playing the piano, and also singing in choirs ranging from church to barbershop to Madrigal Singers. Jim was involved in many different service groups including the YMCA, Kiwanis, and Rotary, especially enjoying BBQing for Stampede crowds. He enjoyed camping and was always ready to build a campfire. Long dinners and story telling with family and friends were a favourite past time. Jim’s many talents, stories and sense of humour will truly be missed.
He will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Julie (Don), and Janice (Geoff); his four grandchildren, Jennifer (Glenn), Kelsey, Jeremy and Jocelyn; two great-grandchildren, Jada and Tyson; and by his brother, Jack.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Family and friends will gather together to remember Jim.
